Lenka has been a part of Pearl's winter life for the past three seasons. The two met when Pearl was a green rookie, with only a day or two on skis under her belt. Looking back at the pictures Pearl was just a babe when they met. But with Lenka's gentle instruction Pearl mastered the pizza, the all important stop, and french fries.
Lenka has been with Pearl through every one of her skiing milestones; graduating from the mini magic carpet, to the big magic carpet. And I'll never forget the day Lenka skied off with a very nervous and upset Pearl in her arms towards the Comet Chair.
Since then this dynamic duo has kept an up to date map of every run on the mountain they've skied together, explored the back side, skied black diamonds and pen pal-ed during the off seasons. Pearl has become a confident skier with true ability. Her parallel turns are awesome!
Sometimes it was just the two of them in a lesson, sometimes they had company. But always they were together, Lenka paying close attention to our Pearl.
They have had special dates outside of scheduled lessons and stopped in to all the favourite hot chocolate spots on the mountain.
March 25th was their last date as Lenka has received a promotion back home in London and will sadly not be returning to Silverstar next winter. Gifts were exchanged, hugs and kisses given and I snapped a quick picture to commemorate this important relationship in Pearl's young life.
The tears came afterwards back at home, when the realization of what this mountainside good bye really meant. I shed a few myself to be honest.
We hope to see Lenka again one day as her love of the mountains and snow call her back to Canada.
But until then please know what a huge impression you've left on Pearl and this family. You have given Pearl a love of skiing that we hope she will have for a lifetime. Such a huge gift, a sincere thank you doesn't seem enough...
Thank you Lenka, you will not be forgotten. Good luck back in London, we know you'll be a huge success.
